Sunday morning at 10:30 people gather to eat food prepared by Chef Ben Kramer and be entertained by an up and coming entertainer. This year there were 4 such events and next season there will be 8. Surprise food, surprise entertainment, all was great.
I give the Chef credit for dreaming up unusual ways to cook and present food. It must take a lot of imagination and sleepless nights to come up with bacon dust! The brunch was totally a play on words except for the recognizable tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich (albeit a waffle instead of bread). Fish and chips, yes there was fish and there were chips, and the dessert with cereal (cheerios?) milk was also as stretch. Coffee included, drinks extra. A great venue for music of all sorts. It's a fun thing to do with friends and that is what eating out is all about, a time for sharing. Try it, a different menu every month if you like to be surprised and we sure were.
WOW, the combination of Kitchen Sync, Chef Ben Kramer, Manitoba Music, and the Free Press is one of the best experiences in the city. Wonderful 4 course brunch, great venue, and add a local artist to entertain this has to be a must attend event for everyone. The mystery of buying a seat not knowing the menu adds to the uniqueness and is a true hats off to Chef Ben. When menu items are revealed pre service don't be surprised at a gasp of air or a OOOHHH from the attendees. We were fortunate enough to be there when William Prince made the journey to town to entertain us, great soothing voice and a great story teller, he magnifies Manitoba proud and his roots.
I traveled to Winnipeg to give an informal presentation, and my local co-hosts chose Kitchen Sync as our venue. I was delighted as soon as I came in the door. The space is cool and comfortable, with an industrial chic look that manages at the same time a kind of effortless elegance. The food the night we were there was excellent -- varied and delicious finger foods that I didn't always manage to eat gracefully. The wines were superb and unusual -- not predictable and well-chosen. The owner is a kind of magician in that she can handle such a wide variety of events and foods in her extremely versatile space. If I lived and worked in Winnipeg I would be hosting the majority of my events there.
Four of us went for the Valentine's themed dinner and we were totally knocked out by each fabulous course, beginning with the freshly baked bread and honey butter. Each dish was artistically and beautifully presented, and the combinations of tastes were unique and delectably delicious! One of our party insists that I mention that they were totally accommodating to picky eaters. They cheerfully substituted an entire early course, along with beef for chicken in the main, and left our brother-in-law entirely satisfied. The wine was also excellent, as was the service. These pro chefs are looking for the perfect place to make their home permanent in Winnipeg -- at least for a while. I hope they find it and stay forever! There is only one sitting and one menu. And it was all delightfully surprising and awesome! I'm sure we will go back for another fabulous culinary adventure!
