Excellent friendly service from the waitress, plus the chef was very personable, chatting with us while we order discussing which dish would compliment the other etc. Dishes were really flavoursome with authentic malay tastes. Loved all the dishes we ordered: prawn with salted egg yolk; tofu; eggplant; asam fish curry. we will definitely come back for more meals.
Chef Roy truly is a great host. From the friendly conversations that made the place feel homely, to the mouthwatering dishes. Best dish at Mutiara has to be the Mamak Mee Goreng. *ask for extra spicy if you're up for the challenge* One of the best joints in town to serve up good Malaysian food at this price point.
Love this place. Really friendly chef. Tasty food. Love the whole fish dish, eggplants, and all of the appetisers here. Would recommend!
There is love in the food here, the type of home cooking love. Definitely somewhere to go if that’s the type of comfort you’re looking from, all the way from Malaysia, in rainy and cold Auckland. Everything was spot on, loved the Assam fish, it packed a punch without being too spicy. The beef rendang was fragrant, would love if they used chunkier fatter cuts rather than lean slices though. Absolutely loved the sambal kailan as well, the paste really tasted homemade too! Only gripe was the pretty expensive small serving of coconut rice at $4.50 or plain at $2 : we were there 2 weeks ago on Zomato Gold, unfortunately they have dropped out of it by now, not sure if we will be back without the discount, given the high prices for the pretty small portions.
*zomato gold*<br/ • Beef Rendang, flavors were authentic and the meat was very well-marinated and tender<br/ • Claypot Noodles, comfort food for a rainy day, gravy was thick and flavorful <br/ • Roti Canai, would not recommend, $4 for a hard slice<br/ • Mango Lassi, made really nicely, thick and smooth <br/
