My girlfriend and I stayed at this restaurant on a Saturday night in September after taking the Nova Star cruise to Yarmouth.
There are many positive things to say about our experience at Rudders restaurant, where Matthew kindly directed us and made a reservation for us.
The manager of the motel was quite a character with a long history of hotel management in his past and a charming outlook on life. Very personal and concerned with our comfort he even offered coffee from his kitchen outside of regular hours. The main building of the motel is multi storied and more like a B&B than a motel. Decorated in an eclectic style with memorabilia and antiques from all over the world. Central location for easy transfer to the ferry back to Maine. (As an aside we rented our car from Enterprise at the port and they have a super staff who supported us even at 12:30 AM and provided us with a drop-off location right at the entry to the embarkation lounge.)
If you are looking for a Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton experience, this is not the motel for you. But if you are looking for a clean, comfortable and reasonably priced motel, this is the place to stay. The proprietor was able to book our room very late at night when the ferry from Portland, Maine experienced problems and got in 2 1/2 hours late. We got to the motel well past midnight, and the owner greeted us with a smile. He was up early serving breakfast, with as pleasant a smile as when we checked in. Very happy to recommend the Lakelawn.
