Love this place! The service was fantastic, servers were super friendly and the drinks were perfect! Came here on a day trip from Puerto Vallarta and had such a great time lounging in the sun, drinking, eating, swimming and relaxing. Coming here was definitely a highlight of our trip and I will be recommending Rogelio's to anyone that will listen! Can't wait to come back and spend more time in Yelapa and, of course, at Rogelio's!
We took a ferry to Yelapa for the afternoon and were immediately greeted by the staff once we stepped foot on the beach. We figured this was as good as any of the beach front options right there so we ordered some beers and sat down claiming our chairs. We were happy with our service and even happier when he told us the best way to see the waterfall and rest of the area (by atv). We didn't have much time and Rogelio's made it happen for us quickly. Our atv driver was also great and we were thankful for the opportunity. The prices all seemed reasonable to me, considering we felt good about supporting local businesses and enjoyed seeing a different beach for the day. We were also able to leave our belongings with our server behind the bar while we ventured around on the atv. We didn't have any food so I can't speak to that. I would recommend this place for your afternoon visit especially if you are just looking for some cervezas and an atv ride.
Food was pretty typical Mexican beach fare but there was a hidden $10 USD charge for services (not a tip). This wasn 't explained when we sat down, on the menu or when he read off the bill. When I read the bill and questioned it, he said it was for beach chairs and service for the tables. I would question this before sitting down to eat.
On the boat ride from PV to Yelapa, we were told by our guide that we were only able to use their restaurant, Rogelio and that the umbrella and tables were free of charge. FIRST LIE! We had breakfast (good food service) when we tried to pay, they informed us that they would run a tab until we returned from our hike. In hindsight, this is to monopolize your business. We returned later in the afternoon and had a shrimp cocktail 1 beer and 2 margaritas. When we asked for the check, we were verbally told we owed 1330 pesos and shown the number '1330 ' on a piece of paper, NOT an itemized check. I went to get a menu to confirm the prices. Our total was extremely lower than 1330 pesos. When the waiter saw me get the menu, he asked if something was wrong, Not if I needed anything else, because he knew something was wrong. A different waiter approached and when we told him we were overcharged, he explained that they added a 20% tip and we should have been told. I repeatedly requested that we 'start over ' by getting all our money back INCLUDING the money my husband gave as a tip (not knowing a tip was already added) and have an itemized check. All of these requests were ignored. In addition, there isn 't any coffee listed on the menu, when I asked him the price, he charged more for the coffee than the margaritas. So, we were overcharged, not informed a tip was added and lied to about what facilities we were allowed to use. An honest person would have informed us a tip was already added when we gave him the tip, allowing us to tip him more, or not. Horrible experience and will never return. Thee only reason they got 1 is because the food was good.
