We ordered half and half (fried and yang-nyum) and each half came with 9 good size pieces totalling 18 pieces for $30.99! The chicken came with a small honey mustard dip, a side of sweet pickled radish and a pop. I appreciated the care the store put into packing the fried chicken by not completely closing the container to keep the chicken from losing the crunch. Unlike other KFC places where even the regular fried chicken has a bite from black pepper, Ating Bahay's version was perfect without any heat which was welcomed by my daughter who doesn't handle spicy food very well. The Yang-nyum version was sweet with a hint of spice from gochujang which was so good! I normally can't eat that much of regular fried chicken but this sauce got me to gobble up 4 pieces. Sigh...I hear my airbike calling my name. Perfectly crunchy regular fried chicken and sweet, sticky yang-nyum chicken really hit the spot for us and we can't wait to try their other offering soon.
I got to try both their specialties on separate occasions and can attest that both their Filipino food and their KFC is amazing! And such a bonus to have in Durham region! The first time I tried this place was through UberEats. I ordered their Boodle Fight for 2 people. It came with everything you'd expect in a feast- pork, tilapia, shrimp, eggplant, okra, garlic rice, oysters, and more. The portion size was great and the food was tasty and satisfying... I love how well rounded boodle fights are. The second time around, I went to the restaurant to pick up two half orders of their KFC. I ordered the soy garlic and spicy chili flavours. The order came with pickled radish and a can of pop. At first I was skeptical about how the KFC would be here, but ended up being super impressed with the quality of the chicken. It was the perfect amount of flavour and crisp. They also prepare the food by the order so it's extremely fresh when you get it. The portions are very filling. I'd highly recommend this place for both their Filipino and KFC offerings. I'm so glad there's been a lot of buzz lately for this place. That being said, make sure you call ahead to order as this place is pretty popular now! Don't expect to be able to walk in, order something, and have it ready within a few min. Though a minor inconvenience, this is a good sign for the business and def well deserved :
Usually I'm not one for hype but we were interested when we saw Korean fried chicken in Durham. Moving here from Toronto, we really missed staples like MYmy chicken and other Korean chicken places along Yonge! This place is the first place I can say rivals and is BETTER than what Toronto offers for the same. It's so good! Crunchy outside and juicy inside even when it is just the thigh, no bones. Outside crunch reminds me of Vietnamese fish sauced wings. We tried the yeongnam (sp? and the soy chilli garlic. The soy is nice and light coat with actually really spicy chilli! The yeongnam is a unique sweet and tangy sauce that is a bit fermented. Think like kind of a sweet tang miso kind of aftertaste but better! The half chicken comes with a lot! This regularly sells out so order when you can. Every order comes with radish and pop.
Service is really good: friendly and efficient. You do need to can ahead to place an order for the chicken and it was ready on time, which was great. Ordered the Soy Garlic chicken and it was flavourful. Smelled so good, too! Super tempted to just dig in as I was driving! Lol The Filipino spaghetti was really good too. My daughter ate 2 helpings : The lumpia was perfect. Not greasy. Crispy, too. Still tasted really good a few hours later; crispness was retained. The pancit was ok. A bit bland for my liking. But everything else I'd definitely order again and again! There was even a nice surprise of a mask with filter in the take out bag.
I saw a thing online about this places Korean Fried Chicken. I was shocked that they werea scheduling fried chicken hours ahead of time. But it was worth the effort, it was delicious.
