New owners Josie and Tony have done a magnificent job of bringing the pub back to glorious condition, on top of that actual chef Tony has created an amazing menu. We were there 30th April 2017, I know chips aren't a guide but they were in my top 5 of all places and time. One of us had an amazing vegan ratatouille and I had an amazing beef Guinness pie and all the other meals were fantastic too! I must get back there to do much more of the menu!
Five of us came here on Mother's day last week. All started well - service seemed friendly enough, complimentary glass of champagne upon arrival for all diners. But that's virtually where it ended.Set menu consisted of three choices for each of the three courses, but there were no indications that it was an actual set, full three-course lunch, nor were there any indications of price. None of us elected for entrees, just main and dessert. Mains arrived within about five minutes to the table after ordering, very rushed by staff. Upon the plates hurriedly being cleared, desserts arrived about five minutes later. In going to pay the bill, we (finally) learned that it was a flat $50 lunch, regardless of how many courses you chose to have. Did any of the numerous staff running around bother to inform us that? No. Therefore we'd paid $50 each for a mediocre two course lunch - barramundi or roast beef, and sticky date pudding or brownie and ice-cream. Perhaps we should have simply assumed the set lunch cost. Or perhaps we should have read the other reviews prior and booked elsewhere. Will not be returning.
We ate here Sunday evening. OK it was a busy time and the food was delivered promptly despite that, but it was simply just ordinary food, nothing to write home about. But the price was reasonable. The wine we wanted was not available by the glass despite being listed on the menu by the glass, so we had to settle for another. The mark of a good bistro is for staff to offer water at the table or have it available on the bar. Neither at this pub. The serviettes were small and of paper and there were no condiments on the table. Then they knocked back the discount voucher as it was Mother's Day (OK - read the fine print dummy).we got a smile or two but this was not a great experience only a very average one.
Attended on a drop in basis after a drive in the Adelaide Hills. Dining area was not clearly indicated but found same and greeted by friendly staff who took orders. Menu was a typical pub gub style with ample choices. I ordered the pork roast and partner chose a vegetarian option. Meals were plentiful and tasty although a bread roll would have been a nice addition. Garlic and other "fancy" breads were available at a cost. The down side this visit was the service levels when the customer flow increased. Staff seemed more involved tasks not directly related to dealing with client order and the like. Noted a phone ringing and going unanswered. We would return but believe that service levels need to lifted to lift the overall rating. Also slightly pricey for the some of the menu choices offered.
