The place is called Mezcal, I LOVE mezcal tequila and I’m a local so I pass it a lot. Finally stopped in, ate before I came so I just wanted to drink. Partner order the tacos they were good! But when I asked to put Mezcal on my Sangria (the menu says pick ANY tequila) they told me they “don’t think they do that” . So the waitress went to check. They REFUSED to put mezcal in my sangria. I could’ve ordered it on the side as a double and put it in my wine, but it’s the freaking principal. lol like… I said I would pay extra and they still said no. Then I was Like “ok, I’m new here, I’ll just order regular sangria” so I got up to tell the waitress my drink order (she was really unaccommodating), THEN, The man behind the bar came from behind the bar to block my walking path, (after he made the decision not to put mezcal in my sangria) , and grabbed his “junk” while walking past me. As a gay woman (which is pretty obvious) I felt like he was saying “I own this place, and here’s my nuts, no mezcal for you”. It was weird. Didn’t like it. Grabbing your junk and blocking my path is so weird. Don’t recommend for the gays. Then they brought one cup for the sangria, even though 2 of us were drinking. THEN, the waitress REFUSED to wait on me. Weird energy. Don’t recommend. Nice price point though.
Good happy hour drinks, very strong and tasty margaritas. Food is alright but a bit pricey for what you get. I would come back for the drinks and chill at the bar but it would not be my first choice to sit down to dine.
I just moved from Jersey city and wanted to find a chilled place with good food and service. I found a place that gave you confusion and frustration. The cocktails are $13 and up but if you want juice, club soda or anything else besides the alcohol it’s an extra $2.00??? Which ofcourse they don’t tell you about. I asked a for a skirt steak quesadilla and I wanted something like tomato and onions, which most times comes with it. They surprisingly charged me an extra $4.00 Then the service was mediocre. If I’m going to spend an unexpected $90. I better have some great service and food. Wait…. It gets better, so they also automatically tip themselves a 20% on your tab. Interesting maybe that’s why they don’t go out of their way to make you feel welcomed and appreciated for the business that you’re bringing them in this economy. So yea, overall I will be telling my friends and neighbors to avoid going here at all cost.
How can it be called a Mexican resturant and the girls taking the order dont speak spanish…..Honestly feels like the owner focus more on the bar than the food!! There are other and better mexican resturants in Bayonne that have better food and better SAZON!!
Second time here last night and had a great time! Daniela made the best rum-spiked horchata! Not to mention how much she’s engaging and friendly! Love her!! Amazing experience. Will be back soon!
