Hidden between buildings this quaint little cafe reflects the ladies that own the business. Fantastic coffee and a great muffin served in a coffee cup ( never seen that before.
Stopped in with hubby to indulge in one of their highly recommended shakes however the caramel one I wanted was off the menu which was a little disappointing. Hubby had the Tim Tam shake and saying it was indulgent is an understatement. He thoroughly enjoyed it and I helped him out! Staff seemed very grumpy and the girl serving acted as though she was doing us a great favour. Doesn't cost anything to smile and have good manners!
We came here on a sleepy Sunday morning early. I like the vibe and atmosphere, it works well for low-key meals or drinks with friends. The food wasn't bad and came quickly-I have only had breakfast here but notice they do other meals as well. Just a decent experience all around.
This Laneway Café looks interesting, we'd passed it many times. Other cafes around that area were closed on the Friday we ventured out there, so we thought why not? We'd dined at the mother restaurant Café Mehfil a few times, why not give it a shot?Order at the counter, a great menu to choose from, reasonably priced items, friendly prompt service, but where to sit? There's quite a choice of eclectic options - standard tables with assorted colourful chairs, wide timber bar stools at higher tables, lower couches... it's all outdoors, there are some sheltered places near the trees at the back and the back of the restaurant looking out onto D'arcy Doyle Place, but to me it's not the shabby chic look, it looks a bit weather worn, some tables warped in some places, bird poo on some of the tables, but if you're not too fussy and don't mind feeling like you're on a nice picnic somewhere you'll feel right at home.We wanted coffee, still early morning so cappuccinos - they were served at perfect temperature (not too hot, ready to sip and enjoy immediately) but was patterned with a chocolate syrup top ontop of the creamy froth. Coffee was ok, not the best taste, but just ok is my verdict. I didn't enjoy the elaborate spiderweb work on the top with the syrup, way too sweet.I ordered the sourdough toasted sandwich with shaved leg ham and swiss cheese, and hubby the pulled lamb burger with fries. Delicious! My sandwich was toasted to perfection, lovely gooey melted cheese, tasty shaved ham and a lovely amount of sweet salty mustard, just what I wanted. The pulled lamb burger was very tasty although too much mayonnaise type dressing for my liking, made it very wet. The fries had that lovely "Indian" taste - perhaps fried in the same oil as their tasty appetisers, and I like that!.Go again? Don't think so. Nice, but I'd rather try elsewhere.
