I had supper this evening at Restaurant La Sagouine. Just before I got there, a bus had arrived with over 50 people. I got the last empty table. Yay! I ordered lasagna. It was good. I saw on the menu that they had homemade pies ... lemon meringue and coconut cream pies were there and I like them both ... so I let Gene, my server, decide. She brought me a piece of the lemon meringue pie. Yum! Gene was my server. She was friendly and despite it being really busy, she took good care of me.
This restaurant is reminiscent of a typical family dining establishment, offering McCain fries and main courses that are generally satisfactory depending on your choice. I have visited a few times in the past five years and have found that the kitchen appears to struggle with the influx of customers. The wait times for average-tasting food and relatively high prices can be a bit frustrating, but you will leave with a full belly.
We had breakfast here before and enjoyed it so much that we decided to come back for dinner. We ordered the fish cakes special and a club sandwich with fries. The fish cakes were homemade, tasty, and delicious, served with boiled carrots, peas, and coleslaw. The club sandwich was also very good. The fries were just the crinkle-cut frozen kind, nothing special. For dessert, we tried the Acadian dish Pet de Soeur with butterscotch sauce, but we wouldn't order it again. The service was quick and efficient, and the washrooms were clean. Parking is available on the street. We will definitely come back again in the future.
The club sandwich was good, but I wish there had been a larger side portion on the plate. I ordered French fries and felt the serving size was a bit small.
