I love the Flower Field. I always like to take my professional camera with me to the Flower Field to take pictures. Pictures don’t do justice for what the field looks like when you are actually there. This is my second time here. It can get crowded around noon. There are food trucks for snacks and lunch. The flowers are very pretty, and the view is amazing

Oh, Flower Fields, where to begin? Once the Eden of the West Coast, now more like the Mojave Desert 's ugly step-sibling. In the past, visiting this botanical paradise was an annual ritual for me. But alas, just like my New Year 's resolution to hit the gym, my annual visits are a thing of the past.The transformation of this place is nothing short of a Greek tragedy. Imagine walking into a flower field expecting a symphony of colors, only to be met with the visual equivalent of elevator music. The vibrant floral ballet that once graced these fields has been replaced by a sparsely populated botanical burlesque show. The remaining flowers are so dry and wilted, they look like they 've had a face-to-face meeting with Hades himself.With all this disappointment, I 'd say your money is better spent at a buffet. Heck, at least there you could drown your sorrows in endless egg rolls and lukewarm lasagna.But it doesn 't end there. No, Flower Fields has a flair for the dramatic. They snatch $23 from your wallet at the entrance, and then they pull back the curtain to reveal... nothing. Bare fields. Nada. Zilch. It 's like expecting a Broadway show and being met with a third-grade school play. We asked a nearby employee, who seemed as interested as a cat in a kale salad, where we could find the flowers. With all the enthusiasm of a sloth on sedatives, he gestured vaguely to the left and muttered, Over there .Following his less-than-stellar directions, we embarked on a journey that would make Frodo Baggins balk. It felt like we were reenacting the Oregon Trail, sans dysentery and oxen. We trudged a mile through nothingness, the promise of the actual flower field glimmering in the distance like a mirage.A beacon of hope appeared in the form of a dusty old truck, looking like it had been resurrected from a Mad Max movie. Imagine our relief! Salvation was near! But just as we rushed towards our chariot of deliverance, we were ambushed by another unenthused employee. He demanded a ludicrous $8 per person for a shared ride. A shared ride! For that price, I half expected a complimentary foot massage and a side of caviar.So here 's the Flower Fields experience in a nutshell: you pay an exorbitant entry fee, trudge through the desolation of the once-vibrant fields, and then get slapped with an additional fee to hitch a ride to the actual flowers. This isn 't a flower field; it 's an entrepreneurial horror show. I 'm not sure whether to ask for my money back or applaud their audacity. But hey, they say all publicity is good publicity, right? I 'll be sure to share this floral farce of an experience far and wide, free of charge. And remember folks, bring good walking shoes and a sense of humor if you plan to visit. You 're going to need it.

The Flower Fields of Carlsbad is an amazing place to visit, an hour north of San Diego. During peak season you can explore hundreds of acres of diverse flowers, from sunflowers to orchids, tulips, roses and lilies, and the list goes on. You can also pay to pick blueberries and fill a bag. Plan to spend at least a couple of hours here and there is a nice food court that makes it a one stop shop for a fun experience!

We went on the last day of the season so that's likely why the flowers were not as popping as anticipated. Wish they advertised tractor rides with ticket sales on line and at the door we tried getting on at the back of the fields and were told we had to buy a pass back at the front which was just a bit off putting. Would have been nice to get to ride from there then pay at the front.
