The restaurant is not the highlight here - it's all about the stunning Irish Loop. The scenery varies throughout the different sections, from wooded areas on the west to coastal and moorland views on the east. Along the way, you'll pass through charming small towns that each have their own unique charm. It may take a full day to complete the loop, but the journey is worth it for the breathtaking landscape.
We drove from downtown to Cape Spear, then to Petty's Harbour, Ferryland, and around. We were astounded by the remote beauty of the small towns and the breathtaking views of the area. Excellent.
Asked the people at Gatherall's puffin and whale tour in Bay Bulls, where we should go for lunch in Ferryland and recommended this restaurant they called Kavanagh. Our bill called it the Irish Loop Restaurant. It is a restaurant on the Irish loop drive therefore the confusion in some of the previous reviews that seem to check the ride and not the restaurant. Restaurant is Diner style. The food was okay. The view was great. Seafood Chowder was good. Others in the group also explained their food to be good. No lawn; just good. Feel the icebergs in the bay we could see from the window.
We only had time to drive part way and that is my only regret. It has gorgeous scenery and breathtaking views. We planned to spend the better part of the day at the Colony of Avalon so only drove perhaps half of the loop and honestly it wad a wise choice. See my review of the Colony of Avalon this is a must do when in the area.
