Delicious almond croissants, absolutely loved the chocolate soufflé (rich n dense but not too sweet !), Friend had mocha gateau, yummo !! ♥️
When I first visited this place, it was about 1 year ago, it was when they first started. I remember having so many choices of cakes in the cake fridge, different pastries on display etc.. but I'm sorry to say I was quite disappointed today. Came in because I saw the ad from outside which said "Quiche with large coffee for $11". So when I walked in to order the set, the owner said that's only for a vegetarian quiche(I have no problem with that. It's just not stated clearly on the ad but fine) then she said "because all these pastries take time to make.." (I wasn't sure why she mentioned that to me, of course they all take time to make) Also, asked her if I could have the coffee changed to a cup of hot chocolate, the staff said no because their hot chocolate is made out of real chocolate or whatever..so I ended up just getting a veg quiche. The pastry was very yummy but the base tasted quite bitter as they were burnt as shown on the pictures. Overall, a bit disappointed with all the restrictions but it is still a nice calm place for an afternoon tea.

So much potential but empty cake cabinets let this place down. Maiden voyage to this café today. Was really looking forward to the gluten-free opera cake that one of the staff told me (via private message) would be available most days. Finally get there to be told that the opera cake is such hard work to make and doesn't sell very well so it's really only made to order. Only GF options today were orange + almond (sooo boring and predictable) + a choc soufflé. Major disappointment for my coeliac kids. What we did order was nice without being legendary, with the exception of the bacon leek + gruyere mini quiche ($8) which was really yummy and something to remember! The choc soufflé cake was smaller than expected for $7.50 but on the rich side so size didn't matter in the end. The mocha gateau ($7.90 per slice) was also quite rich and very tasty, with layers of mocha mousse in between choc cake. Lastly, we had a pistachio ganache tart ($5.50) which by all reports went down well but again, nothing any good patisserie couldn't serve up. Coffee was nicely made but too weak. Customer service was friendly. When we made the trip to Freo today, I was hoping to find a hidden gem of a café that offers something different to the norm. Exquise is definitely hidden -- it's in South Terrace Piazza, near the fairy shop and Into Camelot, just downstairs from where the original Gelare used to be. But sadly, it's not different enough for me.
