Stumbled upon this authentic Italian restaurant by half-accident. We were supposed to be going to a different place for pizzas, but lucky for us it was already sold out got the night. We found Vaelsa instead and decided to give it a try and what a great experience it was. Both of our pizzas were just amazing. The staff was very very busy, but still they found the time and energy to be polite, friendly and welcoming, true professionals. The place was packed and tables were filled right after they were empited, still the food didn't take long to arrive. The great experience continued when it was time to pay, as the bill was extremely cheap. We would not have been bummed to pay much more than what we did, 42€ for two pizzas, non-alcoholic drinks and service. Definitely recommend this place if you're in Helsinki.
I'm really sorry to give this assessment, but I have to. this was our 4th visit here, earlier this was a place, but this night was a real downer. we came 10 minutes before our reservation due and we expected that we had to wait a bit before sitting, but did not expect the waiting time to be over 20 minutes as it turned out. After we have come to our table, we read the menu and noticed that the restaurant in the night serves a solid menu for everyone with some vegetarian and vegan tweaks. that was good because two of our four were more vegan. we also mentioned this when we made the reservation. After we had set ourselves and waited after 30 minutes, our orders were taken. after maybe 45 minutes later the starters arrived, although one of them was not vegan, so it went back and a more correct one was delivered. the “meat” starters were okay, but the vegan versions were just some anti-pasti from glasses, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts etc. after starting maybe an hour later the net arrived. we had all ordered the same vegan pasta. sad they were all a little undercooked, ravioli was too thick with almost no pumpkin filling. a great disappointment. we have most of them back to the kitchen almost untouched. after the pasta approx. 25 minutes later the desserts arrived. “Normal” version was okay, but vegan option was sugary ice creamy suppe (used-to-be-sorbet,) almost unusable. So eating was bad and badly done and we noticed the same with some other tables as well, the people had to wait long, they did not get what they ordered, their controls were not correct, etc. our table was served by 3 or 4 waiters. they could not answer our asking what the vegan options included, especially an arrogant male waiter just shaken his shoulders and answered: “It is Veggies”. my suggestion is to lose the [forced] attitude, to hear their customers, to make good and simple food and to keep their promises. Italian cuisine has so many good vegan options, I can't understand how they can't get it right?
I have here in a hurry my suggestion to skip it unless they are loaded and it doesn't matter to waste money in the average eating
Had bruscetta and ravioli and they were delish. the personal was very friendly. could have more vegan options.
