The doorman, Puk, was very kind and eventually we were seated. We ordered our food and received our soups. However, we were shocked when the waitress brought us the bill and told us we had to pay immediately, even though we hadn't finished our dinner. When we questioned this policy, the staff was unhelpful and rude. We ended up paying €120 for our meal, which was ruined by the poor service. We will not be returning to Bunkers in the future and suggest they improve their staff training.
On Tuesday, May 23, 2023 we were driving the Ring Of Kerry, but first stopped here for lunch. This is a large restaurant and bar with separate dining rooms divided by French style doors. Thee is a coffee shop side then there is a the large side with a full bar. We both ordered coffee and my wife had the Deep Fried Brie Salad. I had the Potato and Leek Soup accompanied by their homemade brown bread. It was all delicious! Very nice restaurant, and I noticed it is frequented by many locals. Always a good sign. A recommended stop by me.
Reasonable had I not been overcharged. We were recommended here by a local when we enquired where would be good for breakfast on the morning of Wednesday 10th of August. First time here: we ordered 1 x Cornflakes with milk at €3; a Continental Choice (any cereal with ham and cheese croissant and tea/coffee: we ordered Cornflakes) at €7.50, a small Irish breakfast served with tea/coffee and choice of toast or brown bread at €7.95 2 poached eggs with avocado (served separately) and toast €9.50 served with tea/coffee. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly and it was served with plenty of avocado but not on the ciabatta as stated. The croissant was warm, large and freshly out of the oven. Portions are very decent and we enjoyed the food and it was buzzing around 10.45am on leaving. I went to pay: a tall dark haired young man who had served us totted it up on the large screen till in front of me, it should have come to €27.95 but it came to €30.95. I drew his attention to the continental choice including cereal but that I was charged for 2 separate Cornflakes. He replied that it is the way it rang up? I asked for a receipt and was given the slip that just had the total paid to the bank not an itemised bill. Tip: know what you are due to pay, question and ask for a thorough explanation and ask for an itemised bill. The rating reflects the overcharge.
I would be cautious of their battered fish, it had a lot of bones in it. When we drew the attention of this to the waitress she simply said “yes it would have”. I just found it really bizarre and unsafe to serve battered fish with bones you would assume deep fried fillet of cod with chips would mean fillet and not bones. I wouldn’t be feeding my children this.
I brought my family to this restaurant for dinner. We waited outside for 40 minutes for a table, and once seated, we ordered our food. The starters came out first, followed by drinks. However, we were approached by a staff member who asked us to pay for our meal before even eating. I was very embarrassed by this, as I had never experienced this before. I questioned why we had to pay upfront, as I had seen others pay at the counter after their meals. The staff could not provide a satisfactory explanation. We finished our meal while watching everyone else pay after their meals, making it the most embarrassing family meal ever. The staff were unpleasant and the food was not worth the long wait.
