KW is not know for good Chinese or Asian-fusion, but Exclamation is one of the better ones. The menu is diverse and generally well-prepared (and not overly-adjusted for Canadian tastes). The staff were punctual and business-like, not cloying or pumping for tips. We were with a Chinese host, which may have given us a wider range of dishes than on an English-language menu. I would definitely return - once the construction is over in downtown Kitchener. Currently, the only parking are some private spots for another businesses in an alley - not a problem after 6:00pm.
I took my family here for dinner. Our server was amazing at helping us pick a menu that was "authentic as possible". The duck was fantastic, and my kids couldn't get enough of the Gagnam-style tofu. The dumplings were house-made. I liked that we were brought complimentary ice cream at the end.
I visited this little restaurant for lunch with a friend on a Saturday. There were not very many people in the restaurant which means we received excellent service. The ginger tea was delicious, and my Pad Thai was excellent! I was very impressed and would recommend it! My Pad Thai was a bit spicy, so if you don't enjoy spice perhaps ask for it mild.
I've been looking forward to trying this place out ever since I first saw it over a year ago. It's attractive exterior, ideal location (corner of Frederick & Duke with a number of tables by the windows), interesting menu, and mostly good reviews made it tempting gastronomic destination. This past weekend, my wife & I finally went there. The restaurant has an attractive interior with lots of seating and the atmosphere is relaxing. Service was friendly and reasonably quick, and wait time for the meals was not too long. We were also impressed with the generous portions, especially of the rice, to the point that we were barely able to finish our meals.Unfortunately, although the food was good and plentiful, it was nothing to write home about. The chicken-fried rice was just lukewarm. My sizzling platter of beef with black bean sauce arrived on a cast iron skillet, but it was not sizzling at all. It was barely hot, appearing to have been cooked in a pan and then merely served on the skillet. My wife's lemon chicken were simply breaded chicken fingers, such as one would find in the supermarket freezer section, with a lemon sauce on them. Actual slices of chicken would have been so much more authentic and tasty. So despite the reputation, the anticipation, the nice facilities and location, the good service, and the ample food, the quality of the food was not what we had anticipated from such a place. We thought that a restaurant of this caliber could and should have done better. In short, we were rather underwhelmed. At least we can say we finally tried the place. But once was enough.
