I saw her first location was free and asked me where they went. a quick response brought us directions to their new location in stallings. we have a quick tour through their facility, they were still in the movement in the stage, but they can already feel that they are a very popular place when they have time to settle. we bought a bottle after a delicious rehearsal and even got a T-shirt for only 5. that's a bargain!
Like many great American gems, the distillery is located in a strip mall, nestled between a gym and likely a brothel. Upon entering, I was greeted by a small shop featuring branded merchandise like glasses and coasters, alongside the whiskey itself. I was particularly taken by the selection of t-shirts that reminded me of JCVD’s character in "Knock Off" (1998), a fashion designer who, along with his buddy Rob Schneider, battles gangsters while selling clothes. In attendance were three other people: two gentlemen who I suspect were international jewel thieves based on their conversation about travel and liquor, and my wife, whom I affectionately call Alex after JCVD's love interest in "Maximum Risk" (1996). Although not a big whiskey drinker, she joined me so I wouldn't find trouble on my own. The owner greeted us warmly at the door, sharing intriguing stories and delicious whiskey. Just as she began her introduction, her daughter walked in to grab a bottle. I initially thought she was a time traveler seeking a rare G.O.A.T. Whiskey to use as currency in a whiskey-fueled future, but since the owner simply handed it to her without any time cop intervention, I conceded she was legitimate. After enjoying some stories and shots, we ventured out back to see the distilling tanks. I was impressed by how much of the operation was done in a craft style. Not only is the whiskey distilled there, but they also create the labels themselves, bottle their own spirits, and even brand the corks as a creative punishment for their son when he misbehaves. The designs for the boxes are all DIY, which I found wonderfully impressive. Honestly, I would’ve bought a bottle just to show support for the small business, but this whiskey was no ordinary small-batch offering; it was fantastic. The first one I tried, G.O.A.T. Whiskey, presumably named after Mr. Van Damme, was a smooth American style, reminiscent of Boston's Bully Boy whiskey—a delightful and affordable spirit. I ended up buying a bottle and even researched where to find it locally, so I can enjoy it regularly. The second whiskey, Reaper Whiskey, is aptly named after the second spiciest thing I’ve come across, the Reaper pepper (the first being JCVD in "Death Warrant" (1990)). This one makes Fireball feel like sweet candy! It's packed with heat and flavor—not something I’d sip leisurely. However, we did sample a special blend they're soon releasing featuring Reaper Whiskey in a Bloody Mary mix, which was absolutely delicious and something I’d love to start my day with. They even gave me a sample to try at home. Overall, I highly recommend taking the whiskey tasting and picking up a bottle of their outstanding offerings. And if you're looking for a good movie to watch afterward, I also suggest "6 Bullets" (2012).
When you visit the distillery, they offer an excellent tour of the facility, where you can learn about their creative process and even sample some experimental drinks they’re working on, like the Goatarita and Carolina Mary. Be sure to take advantage of the complimentary distillery tour and leave with a bottle of both the original and the Reaper whisky. You won’t regret it!
This is the type of whisky that as a NC resident that I like to support. First of all it’s a great story, second it tastes like a backyard BBQ, Fire pit, beach party rolled into one. This is a unique taste, at a great price point. To be honest, this is not my go to whiskey bourbon, but it is a great addition to the cabinet. It mixes well, I know sacrilege, but think of a smoky **** Mary or Manhattan old fashion. smoke already added, no need for a fancy smoke machine or glass bubble, jus sayn . I just tried a smoky mule. Not bad.Great addition, worth the money. Support local, buy local.
The GOAT Whiskey was absolutely fantastic! I first tried it neat and then mixed it with margarita mix – what a delightful surprise! Next, I sampled the REAPER. Hold onto your hats, folks! According to our tour guide, one reaper pepper is used to produce 60 bottles of this fiery spirit, so you can imagine the heat it packs. I tasted it straight, and it brought back memories of enjoying a spicy meal at a Mexican or Indian restaurant. But the real treat was the **** Mary made with the Reaper – wow! I was hooked. My dad purchased a bottle for $29.95, my brother snagged the last one-ounce bottle for $1.95 to take back home, and I picked up a couple of t-shirts for just $5 each. What a fantastic deal, and what an amazing family behind this venture! This distillery has been operating for nearly two years, and during the height of the pandemic, they pivoted to producing hand sanitizer, shipping a large quantity to our troops overseas in the Middle East. They are truly trailblazers and deserve to be stocked in every liquor store very soon! I can't wait to return, but in the meantime, be sure to follow them on Facebook at goatwhiskey, visit their website at goatwhiskey.net, and expect to see me proudly wearing my t-shirt back on Long Island!
