Kenzan remains one of the top spots in town for sushi and sashimi, but the service has unfortunately declined since my last visit a few years ago. Despite being packed on a weeknight, there was a noticeable drop in the level of service compared to what you would expect for the price. The staff seemed rushed and paid little attention to details. Could this be a result of pandemic-related staff issues? Only time will tell.
Dine in a very busy night. Sitting at the bar table, had been waiting for 10 minutes without being served nor asking for a drinks or something. This is a bit awkward because as a Japanese fine dining restaurant suppose to look after every single customer. Certainly not a good experience. All other customer were served with hot towels. Asked the waitress why? She said not everyone served with the towels. Another awkward moment. Because I am not a regular customer? The rest are good sushi and sashimi pairing with very good sake. So I would say the kind of services need to be improved. Other than that, good food and good environment.
During a recent visit, a main size deluxe sushi set was ordered, featuring ten pieces (eight nigiri and two gunkan). The sushi was fresh and delicious, with a good fish to rice ratio. The deluxe set included chutoro, minced otoro, ikura, and fatty fish belly, all at a reasonable price. Additionally, a piece of otoro, scampi, and flame-seared wagyu nigiri was ordered off the menu, providing a pricey but high-quality experience. For dessert, the matcha crème brulée had a custard-like texture with a subtle matcha flavor, while the Japanese sweets bowl was delicate, sweet, and refreshing. The overall experience of the sushi and dessert was tasty, with good service. It is recommended to book a counter seat for a better view of the chefs preparing the sushi. The ala carte sushi menu is on the expensive side, so starting with a sushi set and adding on as needed is suggested.
Love the food and the place, have never seen so many Japanese in a restaurant. The staffs wear the traditional clothes give the authentic Japanese vibes. Grilled eel is the best. I really should know this place earlier! Hopefully I can dine in the private room next time, looks fantastic
