Transformer - Melbourne

I went to Transformer for dinner with 2 friends and we each chose the vegan "feed me" degustation for $55 so that we could try a few different dishes. The restaurant was very dark. I think that it's meant to be dark to create an ambience but it was just a little too dark and a touch difficult to read the drinks menu. Aesthetically it is very simple with lots of wood and some sort of vine hung around/growing within the building. As you first walk in there are some imagines being projected onto the wall which was interesting. There are high tables with stools but we were seated at a lower table which we preferred. I thought the food was fantastic. I loved the variety in dishes, some were fried others fresh, there was a hamburger/bun type dish, dips with breads, roasted mushroom, fresh vegetables and rice. A couple of the dishes were lacking the 'wow' factor for me in terms of taste, but i put that down to personal preference, We also shared a brownie for dessert and I ordered a belgian hot chocolate. The hot chocolate wasn't hot enough unfortunately, but the brownie was nice. This would be a great place to have a birthday gathering, romantic dinner or an intimate catch up with friends, The service was excellent, the waitress knew her stuff and was very friendly. I would rate this 4.5/5 if i could but i can't give half stars on tripadvisor.

I suggested this restaurant for a family celebration earlier in the year and we weren't disappointed.The space felt relaxed and considered, I could see couples, groups of friends and individuals all looking comfortable.The food is amazing! Every dish was a visual feast, each ingredient tasted like the star of the show and beverages were a perfect compliment.As a vegetarian, I feel like this place is my 'ace-up-the sleeve' when suggesting a place that will impress.

The industrial décor in this busy inner city restaurant really sets the scene. Beautiful food and attentive wait staff (though ours was having his first day and was a little unfamiliar with the dishes) made for a great start. The food itself was wonderful. Our only gripe was that the servings were a little small - particularly for the price. My advice - order the "Feed Me" banquet, or order two main dishes. If this were a little cheaper, it would be my regular. Nevertheless great for a treat..

So good to find a vegetarian restaurant which is the full package. The degustation menu of 7 courses is a real treat. The music was funky and the atmosphere is amazing. Make sure you book in advance. We have been Veggie Bar (next door) devotees for decades now and this has taken vegetarian dining to the next level. Congratulations guys and girls.

Transformer Is totally amazing on all levels. The service Is Impeccable - friendly, helpful and efficient. The Industrial fitout creates the perfect ambience. The food Is some of the finest I have ever tasted - deeply complex and layered flavours, the finest produce, stunning presentation. Highly recommended.
