Haiku Japanese - Mendota Heights

I don't understand how this restaurant has a 4.6 rating. The food was tasteless and the portions were small. My chicken was overcooked and full of gristle, which made it hard to eat. Some people at my table were served shrimp with their chicken steak, without being asked if they had any seafood allergies. This is not acceptable. Everything at the table had teriyaki sauce on it, even though I did not ask for it. The waiter ignored my niece when she was trying to get his attention. The only redeeming quality was the sushi, which I would give 2 stars. I will not be returning to this restaurant and I will not recommend it to others.

The staff at this restaurant is fantastic and the food is great. The only problem I encountered was that my fried rice was too salty. However, my wife's fried rice was perfect. It seems like there may have been a new chef in the kitchen who didn't quite have the seasoning ratios right. The spicy tuna roll and fried soft shell crab were both delicious. Despite the saltiness of the fried rice, we will definitely return to this restaurant.

This restaurant is a great spot for affordable sushi rolls. The quality of the food is comparable to Billy's, but without the high prices. My top picks for a meal for two are the dancing lobster and Asian tiger rolls, paired with a sushi entree on the side. The only downside is that there is usually only one server, so service can be slow on busy nights. However, the staff are all friendly and helpful.

The food is great, it always has been and I will always rate them top tier for that. These folks deserve your patronage. It seemed like service on this particular visit was not the best, and that they were aware of the issues and doing what they could to address it not a reason to skip them.
