After a recommendation from our hotel and finding another option closed, we headed here for dinner. We are so glad we did. The building is interesting and the food better. We were between two large local family groups and it was quite a lively place. We shared shrimp and clam rice which came with potato fritters, white wine, and two wonderful desserts. All was delicious and the portions were quite generous. Total cost for the meal was 21Euros. We were sorry this was our last night in town as we would have liked to return and try some other dishes.
Neither of us were impressed with our food. The meat was overcooked. The sauce lacked flavour and even the potato chips had no salt. The building is an old wine or olive press (lagar in portuguese) and is a charming place. The waiter appeared more interested in watching his tv show than in waiting on us. I will eat somewhere else next time.
Travelling back non motorway from Estremoz we decided to stop on a very hot day in Moura and stumbled upon O Tunel, a rather unprepossessing place hiding a real treasure. You enter through a longish cervejaria type bar down some steps to a small restaurant area. We were made welcome by the staff and shown a small menu with a special dish of the day. The food was plentiful and excellent typical of the region and well cooked. We had couvert, 2 main dishes, wine plus water, 1 sweet and coffees for just over 17 euros. Spectacular and a pity it is so far from us!
The staff here are nice and helpful, but the food we had was the pork steak and it was very fatty, the chops were OK and the salad a little sad.
