Food ok but just carvery. Note wide selection available is a plus. The place is very nice to sit back and relax. I would love to give the staff kudos as they were great. The atmosphere was excellent. The only reason for middle of the road rating is using carvery rather than menu. However this was mid afternoon so not aware of dinner time. I was not staying so no idea of rest of establishment
My dining experience at the James Joyce Restaurant in Mullingar was delightful. The menu's fusion of traditional Irish cuisine and contemporary cooking resulted in wonderful flavours. But most impressive of all was the impeccable service provided by the knowledgeable and friendly staff, who attentively looked after us and made us feel truly valued throughout the evening. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a wonderful evening out with family or friends.
Living locally we popped in for dinner 2 adults and one child. Service was excellent, all staff friendly and very attentive. We ordered one starter which we shared had a sirloin steak a kids meal and a hake. Everyone happy with the food. Garlic potatoes were a little strange as they just tasted of nutmeg and not garlic which seemed to be sprinkled all over the top, not to my taste. Fish and steak both well cooked. We had 3 cokes and finished with one grown up and one kids dessert. Bill was 103 euro. I felt the issue was the mains at 31 euro each, really not worth the money. Its a pity because the restaurant is a nice interior with friendly staff but I wouldn't come back and pay those prices with so many decent restaurants locally and mains much more reasonable. Food it 4 out of 5 but given the high prices I've rated it lower based on value.
Stayed in Mullingar on a Monday night and found most restaurants closed. Do they not need the business? Fortunately the James Joyce was open. We were shown to a great window seat, where we received courteous and friendly service. Food was excellent, the white and black pudding for starters, and rib eye steak for mains were outstanding. Compact and reasonably priced wine list, good pint of Smithwicks. Dinner for two with wine a good value 110 euros.
