The restaurant is decent with vegan chocolate options available, but compared to the vegan Italian chocolate gelato, it feels a bit icy and the berry flavors were overly sweet.

Each time I taste this gelato, I feel like a penguin for 7-10 seconds. Definitely worth it.

I had to give this place a try on a rainy shopping day in Nelson. The town was bustling, but this shop was peaceful. My daughter had the award-winning boysenberry ice cream, which she rated 4/5. It had a minty taste. My son enjoyed the mixed berry smoothie, also giving it a 4/5 rating. I opted for a 3 scoop milkshake, giving it a 4/5 rating. I chose bubblegum, passionfruit, and boysenberry flavors, which was both exciting and slightly intimidating. The milkshake reminded me of Willy Wonka, with the flavors hitting me one by one. It would have been a 5/5 if I had chosen the right flavors, but maybe I did after all. I recommend trying the highly recommended blends to make the process easier, as there are so many choices. There is so much to explore here, and it cannot be done in just one visit. I wanted to try the waffles and am interested in tasting the South American flavors like the mate drink. The colors in the display cabinet are vibrant and enticing. We will definitely be returning to this place – long live the penguino!
