Great food every time. Friendliest staff. AMAZING burger for Nelson burger month!
So..... one thing I find difficult to take is people comparing this restaurant to that restaurant! Especially when it comes to foods that are a little out of the norm. BBQ comes to mind! Very regional! Kansas City is different than Memphis ..... and so on.... what does this have to do with this review? Well, everything! I have eaten at quite a number of Indian restaurants all over the country. All are slightly different and I judge them based on their own merits. Baba 's is a simple little diner like place on the main drag in Nelson. It has a fairly varied menu. It 's family run and they are very friendly, very helpful when it comes to the menu items. As I said, I have eaten at a lot of places but can never remember what each is! Once I get past Butter Chicken and Chana Masala, I am hooped! Tonight we ordered 3 items, some garlic naan and one rice. I figured for two reasonably hungry people, two rice might be in order but I was over ruled! (Go for two.....! I find with most Indian restaurants one item just isn 't quite enough. 3 plus rice, a naan each should do you, add an extra rice if you are quite hungry. So Butter Chicken... yup, sure tasted like It. A little light on the chicken but tasty none the less. Chana Masala was pretty good also, tender garbanzos and not too saucy. Last of the 3 was Paneer Matter, which is similar to the Butter Chicken sauce but the hint of coriander adds a freshness to the flavour. The garlic naan was good, maybe a little too much butter on them but tasty just the same. Not to dense and heavy.... finished off with a cold Kingfisher and it was a good meal. Pricing is about average for most Indian. Anywhere from $10 to $13 per item, plus rice, beer and naan, and you are looking at a $60 bill, plus tip. Seems about normal these days for anyplace that doesn 't have a drive thru! Go in with an open mind, order what you like and enjoy the flavors. Pretty mild but if you ask nicely I 'm sure they can heat things up a bit! Interior is a little tired, that is probably the biggest downside. All things considered, we 'd both go back and that sums it up.
REALLY good Indian food right on the main street in delightful town of Nelson, looking on to spectacular mountains. Their eggplant pickle is fantastic! Has a nice terrace; indoors could use a bit more colour; but overall friendly service and decent pricing make this one a go to .
The best samosas I've ever eaten. Easily. Everything was spiced perfectly. Try the pickles too, it's lemon, and like nothing I've had but sooooo tasty. Quick service, friendly people, and the best smells coming from the kitchen. YUMMMMMM
