Tried Zao-san for the first time and ordered a teriyaki chicken Bento for $18.00 which is a little exxy. It came with rice, salad, vegie spring roll, edamame, crumbed prawn and a bite of korroke potato cake. The chicken thigh was rendered nicely, crisp skin and nice charred flavour. The sauce was okay but there was way too much of it. Would come back again.
Great place for simple authentic home style Japanese food. Service was great and the fresh green tea was refreshing. Try this place for a casual meal dining experience
I ordered takeaway bento boxes for dinner last night from Zao San, it's a really cosy little shop with excellent decor loved the lighting! Very relaxing vibe. Very fast and friendly service. We ordered the teriyaki chicken bento and the katsu chicken bento the teriyaki was delicious and the katsu super crunchy. I liked the salad and there was a little potato thing, I was less excited by the beans in the bento but that's more about me having a general dislike for beans. Great place! Next time I'd like to try the sushi and the katsu curry!
Hands down, the best Japanese take-away NOR. I have a really hard time finding any blemishes in Zao San. As cringey, annoying and repetitive as it sounds, I am a sucker for trying and testing Japanese food, but am particularly interested in the way that it is presented in Perth in the form of take-away. The moment you want into Zao San, you will be greeted by a friendly lady, most likely the owner, and will get a feel of the ambience that surrounds the restaurant. It is a refreshing, modern yet strangely traditional place that helps add to the experience of going there. As far as the food is concerned, it really is top notch. I've tried every single item on the menu and have not yet left unhappy. The teriyaki chicken is cooked to absolute perfection, the curry has an authentic taste, the sushi; rolled and presented to a very high standard. Recently, Soba noodle was added to the menu. For $9 you get a sizeable bowl of hot (or cold) soba, with the right soup, and a home-made croquette. My recommendations would be the teriyaki salmon, chicken curry, the teriyaki chicken strips and the soba. Prices are standard, however there are usually daily specials, which might take off a dollar or two. Do yourself a favour and try it. It's worth the money and time just going.
