Mac's Restaurant - Portland

A simple and quick stop in Portland just for a dinner and one night and we found this nice pub with a good choice of meals, beers and homemade desserts Quality-price very good and the staff available and kind Desserts are amazing!

Beer battered whiting fillets crunchy and chewy. Chef needs retraining. Worse meal ever. Friday night looking forward to a decent meal and utterly disappointed. One of our party ordered medium rare steak separately and 45 minutes later still waiting.

We ate in the public bar last Saturday as they were busy with birthday parties in the main restaurant area. No problem with that - we got to meet the locals !The steak and chips with vegetables was good. Meal could have been hotter and the meal took a while to arrive even though we arrived at 6:30 pm. We listened to the band do their sound checks while waiting for our meal because we could not each other speak.

We had a pre dinner beer at the bar. There were several on tap to choose from. The bar had a nice atmosphere but then we went to the dining room for a really nice meal. The menu was very long and had lots of half serves which is good for those wanting a smaller serve.

We had quite a big group for lunch so we pre-ordered but there was so much confusion when we were there we had double ups of some meals and other meals had to be re-requested. Mine was one that didn't come out so I asked about it and when it did come out it was the saddest looking salad I've ever seen in my life. The chips however were amazing.
