Purple Hen Winery - Rhyll

The Sauvignon Blanc 2017 was a joy to drink. Lasting flavour. This place is nice, laid back and relaxing while enjoying a range of light snacks. We would have preferred food platters and perhaps a Tapas or two. This winery has a range of white wines with a small range of reds. The service was good and the warm fire made the room cosy. The wines are a little pricey. We will bring our friends their some time in the future. It would have been better if descriptive details available on the serving counter were accompanied with the actual bottle. The wine colour and the bottle label details would assist to understand the wine makers result. The $5 wine tasting cost was a good thing for a small winery. The $5 was not charged if you bought a bottle of wine. I would like to think future improvements are made similar to some Northern wineries or South Australia wineries. Well done.

A wonderful place to end a days sightseeing around Phillip Island, or just a casual get together with friends. Wine tasting with a trio of dips and a cheese platter is the perfect way to enjoy the grounds and views from a picnic table in summer or indoors in the colder months. A cellar door not to be missed. Wonderful hosts, great wine!

We really enjoyed our visit to Purple Hen, the wine tastings are $5 per person (redeemable against a purchase) but they have more than the average number of wines for you to taste that makes it really good value. We also had the cheese board which was delicious! They were more than happy to chat to us about the process (being new to this) and were very knowledgeable. Would recommend the chardonnay or the Blanc de Blanc

Ok, so you've caught me out, it is the only winery at Rhyll, but the view and setting is worth coming to see. One way across the gentle slopes to Churchill Island and other way to the vines. Not to mention the delicious sparkling shiraz...
