Grand Hotel - Torres

Under NEW management this hotel was great service, the pub was perfect for a feed and brew with views out to Horn Is. at sundown. Breakfast buffet was on point with outdoor seating also with views over the water at sunrise. I spoke with new managers and they come from over years experience nation wide in hospitality and were friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend this place if on Thursday Island.

Offers the best views of the gorgeous harbour area. Rooms are pretty standard but mostly clean and comfy. It's a shame the restaurant isn't operating at the moment, the food available at the pub isn't too bad but isn't great for anyone who needs to eat real food. Despite this limitation The Grand is the better choice for anyone staying on TI.

The only thing saving this place is the view and the staff! Cant buy a drink with cards, no glass of water, cant not put an item on my burger. How hard is it to not put onion on a burger? Bartender was very nice however, i feel very sorry for her.

Comfortable room, one issue we encountered was the remote to TV was not functioning we did not discover this till after reception had closed. As per the sign I sought assistance from the bar, they asked me to report it in the morning, we only stayed one night so no assistance When we did turn the TV on by manual controls the sound was set at but barely audible quite crackly. About minutes after the TV was going the sound blasted to full I reckon everyone in the complex would have heard it. We gave up switched off.

While the meals were large, the service was poor. Perhaps in an attempt to minimise tax, you can only pay for drinks by cash. The meals can be paid for by card, but not the drinks. The signage says the hotel opens up at but we were sent away at am and told to come back at midday They have pokies, but no Keno.
