If you are looking for a upscale, fancy, fine dinning, steakhouse experience, then this is the place. Foxfire is upscale. Nodoubt. Atmosphere and prices concur with that. Evern the drinks at the bar sounded exotic and upscale. Food tasted great! Thesurf in my surf and turf and comically small, but it tasted great . The steak was a prime cut and cooked to perfection. Aboveaverage beer selection. Wine selection looked great, but it 's not my thing. Would I go again? Maybe. I enjoy a good meal, but at $50-$100 per person that 's not and experience I need often. I can be nearly as happy as place half the cost, though theywill be decidedly more casual.
Server was very nice, but service was slow. They had open 4 top tables in the front, but the TWO hostesses refused to seat us there, even though we had reservation, saying they saved those 4 tops for larger parties (we had 2), so they seated us atanother 4 top in the noisy back. The tables up front remained empty all evening (our reservation was pretty late In evening). Had Filet Oscar, and it was overcooked, dry, no seasoning, and not worth $50. I would go to Morton?s or Wildfire for a betterfilet. The bacon wrapped dates were excellent. My date had the prime rib, and said it was great. Not crazy about the winelist. Atmosphere is legacy steak house, dark and a bit dated. They had a specialty Old Fashion and Whiskey Acres rye option,so nice drink option there. It?s expensive, steak house prices. And yes, you do not even get bread with meal, which is prettystandard at steak houses, but I am fine with that.
Nice restaurant. Upscale and full of ambiance. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. I got a salad and the ribs and wasn't a big fan of the sauce. But the pomegranate martini was delicious, and the prime rib egg rolls were excellent. Someone atour table got a steak and said it was the best they've ever had.
Drove out from Glen Ellyn with another couple. Priced just below a high end steakhouse like Morton?s or Gibson?s, the food experience was almost comparable yet the waitstaff has a LONG way to go to complete the experience. Our server, when notmissing in action, was generally forgetful and inattentive. Dirty plates and empty drink ware stacked up on the table, disheswere delivered without the appropriate utensils, bread came an hour in just before our entrees, and we had to chase down ourserver after dessert to get the check (roughly 30 minutes from meal conclusion to finally getting the check?and without a thankyou). Did I mention I had to take my drink to the bar to get it garnished, as ordered? We tipped 20% anyway, if only not topenalize the other restaurant employees. Restaurant gets an 8.5 for food quality and presentation, and a 3 for service.
Pricey but you get some good quality cooking. I would recommend the Vanilla Bourbon Mashed Sweet Potatoes as they work also like a dessert and reminds me of the Southern holidays and would go great with some well seasoned wood smoked meats. The calamari is very tender and not over fried so they are not rubbery or lacking in flavor, the sweet mild chili sauce is nicely paired with the fried coating but the other sauce in my opinion should have been a citrus creamy wasabi for the pairing of the seafood and again just my opinion to kick it up. The water is something odd to talk about but it was sweet and fresh with no off odors so you know anything prepared with that same water in the kitchen is going to have a better flavor. It would have been nice to offer a fresh cut lemon or cucumber to add to the glass as to help cleanse the palette to fully enjoy everything you order. I added my own lemon as I had to try certain items to include the special mixed drinks we sampled. The dinner rolls were not warm and soft like we hoped, the plain unsalted butter was soft and creamy so you need to add a little salt, and it ended up we used the rolls for the soup since they were so chewy. So I would skip having them bring rolls to the table. Everything else for the main courses were eye pleasing and pleasing once it hits your tongue. I didn't really get the cup of tomato ketchup with the type of burger I ordered as it doesn't pair to what is in it and I didn't get a side of potatoes. I could see a cup of berry or pepper jam maybe as the ketchup is too overpowering and was a waste as if it it needs a certain sauce on it then the kitchen would have put it on it the meat. The atmosphere is very nice as the booths reminds me of the old nightclubs and why we had to order a very tasty Manhattan as we waited. So it's great for the older couples to feel nostalgic and the younger crowd to feel classy. The bartender made some of the best drinks we have ever tried. Great place to stop in for the causal drinkers. The beer selection was nothing special so I would stick with the mixed drinks.
