They have lots of TVs with things to watch, A variety of seating, Two pool tables and other games, and a nice room. It is a better deal if you live in the neighborhood and it is a better deal if you can actually drink. I stopped in for a quick lunch before heading off to do other things. The burger and onion rings were standard issue. I was famished, so I was glad to have them. At 3-ish on a Saturday afternoon, there was one stolid non-mask wearing bar denizen. There was a serious non-mask pool player practicing on the tables. There was the bartender and me. Safe enough to allow me to wait inside for my burger. Not safe enough for me to want to lounge there forever. When the pandemic is over, I have a number of bars I am supereager to get back to. Castro's is a better deal for Lakeway people than me ... but it has its charms.
Love this place they have some of the best wings in Texas (yep I said that). Not fru fru wings just great wings and the onion rings are top five in America. Prove me wrong!
We've been living in this area for a while, but closer to the Galleria, so we hadn't tried Castros until recently. Thanks to friends who kept recommending it, we finally decided to stop by, and now we're completely hooked. The service is always cheerful, with friendly smiles and engaging conversation. Annette prepares some incredible dishes in the kitchen. We feel so fortunate to have discovered this local gem!
First things first: Castro 's formerly named Castro Nova is EXACTLY the same place. Has NOT moved, is NOT under new ownership, SAME interior ONLY a name change for whatever reason...so somebody created a new business listing on Yelp. Open until 2am 7 days a week, Castro 's is a bar/lounge/sometimes borderline club located in a strip mall the heart of Lakeway. You never know what to expect when visiting Castro 's, accept the cocktails are always poured with a heavy hand. Castro 's attracts a very diverse crowd for the area, with some locals serving as permanent fixtures, other patrons all ages and walks of life. There is a certain loungy (think a tad bit divish lounge) feel to Castro 's. Comfy leather sofas and chairs are gathered in the more quiet corners. There are two separate bar areas, nice pool tables, dart boards, a jukebox, several TVs, and clean restrooms (at least the ladies lol). Always fast and friendly service provided by the staff. I 'm not certain of Castro 's exact calendar of events; however, they do host karaoke on specific nights and have a DJ (the nights when it gets boots and boots clubish and is very loud so if you 're not in the mood... Weeknights are personal favorite times to stop in a little more tame than the weekends. Overall: A decent spot to grab a cocktail or brew, play some games, and engage in some interesting conversation...unless the DJ is shaking the walls. In that case, it 's your decision to decide if you can 't beat 'em, join 'em or bail. Either way, cheers! Notes: Full bar, inc. beer and wine. Smoking lounge/bar, both cigarettes and cigars. Castro 's has a decent selection of cigars for sale. If you are a petite person (i.e., shorter than maybe 5 '10 or so), be careful when stepping off the stools in front of the right side bar. They are unusually tall and falling off is never fun, no matter how many times you 've done it. : D
Drinks may be okay but went there for BBQ which is also offered. Food was way over spiced. Salty salty, Monosodiun Glutamate overload! We had swollen lips and dry mouth from terribly salty food!
