Visited the first time on Friday night at 1830 in June. This is too early and the place has just been set up. Visited again on Saturday night at 8:40. The place was alive. Many local families with children were in place. The outdoor terraces were full of Mariachi bands playing at the tables. The atmosphere was alive and SAFE. People visit the place to have drinks (height as other places) and have fun. I went at 9:30 and the crowd was still pouring. Close to Mercado San Camilito is a good place to test local foods, how to eat local food (at local prices) a beautiful place to see local nightlife.
Lively with talented mariachis singing everywhere, various shows and dancing in different bars and restaurants. The food we tried was good but not the best, however we only ate at 1 place and we chose vegetarian.
It is probably a must to experience mariachi music in a historically popular location; however, the place is a bit rundown and there are now too many other bands (norteña music) that, in my opinion, distract rather that add value.
Cool place to have some beer with friends. Beers were $55 pesos, corresponding to $2.5 USD. Food is great everywhere. Watch your stuff and be careful with the ceime.
